Yep. Goes up pretty quick too. Use it in a fire piston or I keep blastmatches with all my stuff. You have to be careful how much flammable material you store and how you store it. Bad things can happen. Bad things man.

Fire pistons are awesome. I don't really know what dual survival is but glad it learned you on the subject.

What's the upside of a fire piston over something like a firesteel?

Consistency is one benefit. I think that service length would also be superior. In theory you could continue to use the fire piston so long as you have some tinder. You would need that for a steel anyway. Steel requires a little more practice to learn how to use. I can more easily setup a fire piston for one handed use... There are a lot of reasons I would prefer a fire piston. But the blastmatch stuff makes the firesteel stuff somewhat idiot proof and gives you thousands of uses before depletion. Most of what I stated as a benefit of the fire piston is nullified by convenient packaging of the blastmatch. However, a fire piston will produce fire with one stroke. A firesteel may take longer to get stuf started.

Dual Survival is one of many survival shows on discovery channel. It put 2 survival experts in the field with little or nothing and had them survive together. They've gone thru several experts, but the cool guy was this hippie kinda guy that teaches survival in the desert. He doesn't wear shoes ever, and knows how to live off the land. And he made a fire piston from scratch.
