The Crowes and Rush are great. I promised myself a long time ago I'd never listen to Gimme 3 Steps again, after hearing it every night in the pool halls of North Carolina. Like, 8 times per night. :puke:

I might be holding off on these for a bit. I'm having a hell of a time with Enter Sandman. Oh man is that hard on guitar. I've been playing on medium and nailing almost every guitar song on the first attempt(no practice--95 percent or higher)--but that Metallica Song is brutal.

Any suggestions for these? I still can't do hammer-ons/pull offs. Any tips other than running tutorial? They don't go in depth that much.

In all honesty? I would practice playing the Guitar Hero series. The guitar parts are much more in depth (and difficult) to master. Once you start pounding out the GH tracks, I would give Rock Band another shot. It'll be easy as pie.

I haven't seen zee rock band yet, but from a GH perspective you haven't owned it long enough to declare the song brutal. :D There are some songs on GH2 I've tried at least 200 times and still not passed.

But as for advice, repeat the tutorial until you CAN do hammer on/pull off. It's what allowed me to move from medium to expert, with a short stint on hard.

What Dooo said. And let me tell you, you haven't seen a hard song 'till you've played through the five minute solo (might only actually be a two minute solo, but there's two of 'em, and it sure feels like five minutes) on the last song on Expert.

But yeah, play the challenging parts (usually the solo) in Practice mode 'till you master it.

I don't know if GH does this, but I've discovered that some notes in RB don't need to be strummed at all. They are TRUE hammer on notes, and I've actually gotten so frustrated I've had to use both hands to play them (because they go for about 20 seconds doing 16th/32nd notes in succession up and down a few frets) and just stop strumming.

But just load up Practice mode and practice practice practice. I finally beat one of the two songs in RB that was blocking me from finishing it on Expert. I'm not sure if I'll ever learn the two solos in the last song though. Good LORD they're brutal.

And Carpetbagger is correct; the GH stuff is way more challenging. So playing GH when you get stuck is actually going to improve your game.

omg... yes lowercase...

I'd never played any of the GH series, and got RB for Xmas. I completely skipped easy, played one song on medium, then started hard...

Enter Sandman took me about 6 tries, and a lot of practicing the solo, it was fucking me every time, I'd do each of the sections of the solo until I could hit at least 85% on each then did the whole solo until I got the same... I beat the song on the next try.

Now I've got 2 songs left on hard, "Flirtin with Disaster" - Molly Hatchet, and "Green Grass and High Tides" - The Outlaws.

I've got 36 out of 58 songs done on expert...

I don't know if it helps that I play guitar, or what... blah...

I gave up on those 2 songs and started on expert... I guess I'll go back and practice them :P

Those are the two I'm stuck on on Expert. I beat Flirtin' but that Green Grasses one is just...BUH.

Bang Camaro is a pretty weird/cool band

Quote:
The band is composed of a bassist, a drummer, three guitarists, and anywhere from ten to fifteen vocalists comprising a full choir of lead singers. The band's music is somewhat similar in style to '80s metal and glam rock. The basic song structure employed by the band does away with traditional verses in order to highlight catchy choruses and integrate as many guitar solos as possible. The result has been described by the band as, "taking everything we loved about the genre, and throwing everything out that we hated." The band cites Elvis Presley and Buddy Holly as influences in addition to hard rock bands like Iron Maiden and Dokken. "I would call us anthem rock," said Alex Necochea. "We're really not heavy metal. I think our focus is more on writing great singles, as best as we can make them. That's just something Bryn and I grew up on. We're big fans of melody and big driving hooks, that sort of thing."[1]

they were in GH2

they're already in rock band (this guy's character is AWESOME...it's Conan O'Brien!!)

here's the new free song...you can see how many fucking people are on stage

I dunno...I'm not an Oasis fan, but all of those songs seem like they'd be fun to play. Except for that Coheed and Cambria song, that thing is ass.

I've never been a huge Oasis fan, but I love all three of those songs. I'll be buyin' that whole pack. Probably not a one from the Progressive Pack though. Maybe Siva if I'm desperate for new content that week.

Individual songs + lower prices = more downloads. Who would have thunk? Or yah, that's right. Everyone but Activision.

Seriously, EA has figured out how to beat the "pawn shop" angle. You can't sell a song used.

Can they apply that to other titles?

The obvious model would be to do episodic content. IE sell you a short game at a cheap price, say $30 or so. Then make more episodes available through live, etc. You need to retain the disc to play the new episodes. Buy in is cheaper so consumers would be more likely to give it a try, and it prevents used sales.

Before the game was released, they did say that there would be a minimum 3 songs available for download every week for at least 52 weeks.

I think this is great, really. I haven't seen shit released on Guitar Hero 3, I beat it on medium and I haven't been back. Rock Band seems superior in so many ways.

Here's an interesting article from Yahoo on Rock Band and Guitar Hero. The thing that amazes me is the sales figure for Rock Band on 360...775,000 units at $179 each. That's crazy money and great sales considering the price tag.

Depends on what the margin is, even at $179 they might only be making the $10 to 20 per unit they'd normally make on just the software (i.e. they might be "giving" away the hardware at cost and zero profit just to get the installed base).

I have a feeling that is the case, so that they enter the market with a loss leader and then finish strong on the strength of the 200 song DLC. I'm sure I will buy at least $60 in DLC over the next year if the past month or two is any indication, and I have a feeling their margin on the DLC is much better than on the software/hardware.

Well MS supposed takes a 30% cut off DLC. We know song sites are making a profit selling mp3's at $0.99 Cost is $2.25.

Sooooo.
They get $1.575 per song. Minus costs. Wouldn't be surprised if they were getting $0.75 a song or so off DLC.

Even so they are able to get that 24/7 as long as the marketplace is up. They don't have to manage any stock in order to keep selling that stuff. I think that is considered superior to anything that comes in a box.

Wonderwall is dead to me. It's an ok song that has gotten so much undeserved praise and air-time over the last decade that it needs to be aborted with prejudice, post haste.

I know shin prolly won't buy the rush, but if he really is an expert guitar player, the solo that starts at 2:10 and goes in and out til about 5:00 oughta be a challenge
