If the punishment is weak then the fan and media reaction, or over-reaction, would be justified. If the punishment fits the crime (and "Ignorance of the crime is no excuse" - Roger Goodell), then the static could still be seen as justified, because it may have been the difference-maker in a matter where the league often gets it wrong. The NFL is quick to fine someone for wearing the wrong color shoes & socks, as if that really affects the gameplay...

...but when it comes to something that could really affect gameplay, in a conference championship, I'm not surprised if people feel like it'll get swept under the rug. The cheating probably didn't affect the outcome of Patriots v. Colts, but the Patriots couldn't know that beforehand. Spygate affected close Super Bowls, and the punishment for that was a relative wrist slap. NFL should put its bite where its bark is. Or stop barking.

The NFL Needs to learn how to create a fair play environment, and stop letting teams supply the balls. Seriously, FFS, who in the NFL thought letting a team's equipment manager manage the game balls that would only be used by THEIR team WOULDNT turn out like this??

As a game designer, when I heard this is how the game is managed I thought "the only reason you do that is if you WANT the teams to cheat."
