- Lovie Smith was fired by the Bears. Chicago looks to replace him with a swiftly arranged short list, including offensive coordinators Tom Clements of the Packers, Mike Sullivans of the Buccaneers, Denver's Mike McCoy, and New Orleans' Pete Carmichael. Also in the mix are special teams coaches Keith Armstrong of the Falcons, and the Cowboys' Joe DeCamillis.

- Though the Bears are the first team to show interest in Colts offensive coordinator Bruce Arians for their head coaching position, the Chargers are also expected to enter the fray.

After a long and distinguished run with the Bears, special teams coordinator Dave Toub is expected to make a lateral move to the Kansas City Chiefs, two league sources said.

Toub oversaw special teams for all nine of Lovie Smith’s seasons with the Bears, and he consistently had among the strongest units in the NFL.

Eek. If you have coordinators jumping ship and it isn't even a promotion that doesn't bode well.

our new TE

Quote:
''I take pride in being a guy who can do both and whether it's blocking 100 times in a game or running 100 routes I feel like I have the ability to do both,'' he said.

Nicknamed ''The Black Unicorn,'' Bennett will also bring some personality to the locker room.

''I'm excited to be a Chicago Bear,'' he said. ''Bears are one of my favorite animals after dinosaurs. I don't think there are any dinosaurs in the NFL, so a Bear is a great thing to be.''

You mean to say, "sign Urlacher to a contract commensurate with the ability he still brings to the table." Not another Orlando Pace contract.

LAKE FOREST, Ill. (AP) -- The Chicago Bears have agreed to a one-year contract with cornerback Zack Bowman.

Bowman has appeared in 57 games with 16 starts over five seasons with the Bears, recording seven interceptions and 13 pass break ups and five fumble recoveries - including two for touchdowns.

He played in 11 games last season, recovering two fumbles and returning one for a touchdown.

So they didn't sign the Defensive Captain. WTF

And okay, sure, he's starting to lose a step, fine.

Who do they have to fill that position?

Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

I'm not sad he's gone, but it sounds like the bears were kind of dicks about it. If it's true they only offered him 1 year at 2 mil, take it or leave it, then that's garbage. His on field leadership is worth more than that. Hell, his ability may be worth more than that. It's no secret his age is a liability and the last few seasons, his durability has been lacking. That's not coming back, but he's been the defensive glue for over a decade. Nick Roach is not Brian Urlacher. But FA just started the draft isnt for another month.

The bears have lots of holes to fill and not a lot of dollars to do it. With the ongoing shift in the NFL to focusing on high power offenses, it should surprise no one that they cut ties with a fading future hall of famer on the defense. Just wish it wasn't on such icy terms.

I'm sad he's gone for a lot of reasons, but primarily they are:

1). He deserved a hero's final season send-off, not a take-it-or-leave-it buh bye.
2). There's no fucking backup plan.

Yeah even said he'd take 1 yr at 3 million. It's a shitty sendoff for a guy who should've finished his career here.

And i was gonna get a new urlacher jersey too...

Quote:
The Bears filled part of the Urlacher void on Friday when they secured former Denver linebacker D.J. Williams with a one-year contract, as first reported by longtime beat colleague Dan Pompei at the Chicago Tribune. “Secured” may not necessarily be the word for Williams, who missed nine games last season because of two suspensions, one for six games from the league for a violation of its substance policies, and three after a driving-while-impaired conviction.

Oh Jesus fucking Christ. We replaced an aging but reliable guy who missed some games due to injury for a train wreck who misses games because he's violating everything.

Just what the Fuck, management.

I haven't paid much attention to the NFL in a while but, going back a few years, I saw this moment coming. Owens has assholed himself out of favor, he's reached the point where he's not good enough for people to tolerate his shit (or potential shit), and he's in financial trouble.

TO's best bet is holding a seance for Al Davis's ghost to scare his son into putting him on the Raiders. Because that was the only rich kook who would have taken a chance on a player kook at this stage in his career. Failing that there's Dancing With the Stars, Celebrity Apprentice, Spash!, and Scary MoVIe (might as well go with the 'VI' for 6 since they already used 'V' for part 5...).

Then parlay those earnings into buying the rights for a Battle of The Network Stars reboot. TO could host it. Bam! Straight back in the mi-hi-hi-hix!

and the Bears choose in Round 1...

Kyle Long T 6'7 311 Oregon

National Football Post: The Bears made a bad choice selecting Long in the first round because he is a long way from being a quality starting lineman. While he's quick and explosive, Long is stiff in the hips and too often bends at the waist to try to make blocks. He is going to need to greatly improve his technique to ever justify being a first-round selection.

It was time. He will be HoF eligible the same year as Ray Lewis, so don't count on him being a first ballot lock, but he's going in.

He's defined the position for over a decade and had continued to play at a level that belied his age in his later seasons. Jesus, his ability to coordinate a defense should put him at least in the discussion, and that's not even counting his 8 pro-bowl selections.

No he doesn't have a ring, but it has little to do with him. You can blame Jerry Angelo for not building an offense that could do it's job.

How much do you want to bet he ends up in Cincinatti?

At this point the Bengals are like a prison rehab team, right? Makes sense.

Oh. I thought the Ravens were a little light on murderers this season too.

Yeah, with Ray Lewis departure there is a glaring lack of multiple murderers on the Ravens. But According to some story I read a while back, the bengals had the most player arrests from 2000-2012.

There is a definite lack of disciprine in the Bengals locker room. I'm just concerned that we need to make sure to spread the love around.

No doubt. I mean, we've got to spread the misconduct around, keep things balanced. No Miami Heat style shenanigans for the NFL.
