Sorry. I know this may be redundant for those of you on Facebook, but I find this site more personal to keep in touch with you guys anyway.

My daughter had an outdoor concert at her school. It was required to do either a solo or a duet. I give her props for choosing to go solo. I always knew the kid was a good singer, but man, she blew me away tonight.

The quality isn't that great. It was outside, it was windy, people don't know how to shut up and it was taken on my iPhone. But, she still shines through. I'm trying not to be the "oh, your dad you have to say that". I think she is amazing for no professional teaching as of yet.

I guess I'm just looking for some honest opinions. Plus I want the whole world to hear her as well.

Thanks for listening/reading!

I don't have speakers.

Based on that, I can only assume that this is a video taken from a legally mandated distance by a strange old man on his iPhone. :D

I do like that song, though.

I have speakers but they must suck because I could barely hear the singing. I did hear everything else though.

At 1:32 her voice comes through really nicely. Your daughter has skill. It's more than good trying.

I think she should be encouraged if she enjoys it (which you're probably doing). Maybe consider voice lessons to hone it in?

Oh we do encourage her a lot. Prior to this performance I pulled her aside and gave her a little pep talk. We always knew that she had a better than average voice, but she was always hesitant to "lay it all out there" when she had the opportunity. Granted she is still young and I know personally that being up on a stage at that age can be a frightening thing to have to do by yourself.

As far as voice lessons, I'm unsure what to do. Unlike a teacher for a band instrument (most any teacher teaches the same fundamentals), I know a voice coach has their own style of how they teach to breathe, etc. I know nothing about this and have to look into what to look for when trying to find one.

She has shown some interest in pursuing this as a possible career (backup singer, broadway, etc) after high school. I know it is a pipe dream for most, and possibly for her as well, but someone has to do it. Why not her?

I assume she's in choir at school? Talk to the director and see what he/she has to say. Make sure that whomever you choose has been properly trained to teach voice. Make sure that the teacher focuses on the type of music she wants to sing. Opera is hard and fundamentally different from most types of singing and can RUIN your voice if you are taught improperly, so if she wants to sing contemporary or broadway style music, don't get an opera teacher.

I have another video that was taken (albeit poorly on my iPhone) of her singing at the Talent Show at her high school tonight. I didn't want to just put it up here before asking if anyone was interested in hearing her sing again.

Putting up a couple more if anyone is interested. Sorry, not trying to shove her singing on anyone, but I just think she does so good. I never put up the one from the talent show, so I am going to add that one. And I also have one from the musical that they did. This year was Shrek. She comes in the first time around the 1:10 mark and then again around the 4:10 mark.

Sorry for the vertical video. The wife shot it that night.

EDIT: YouTube links don't work on the site anymore? Or am I linking wrong?

linking wrong, now fixed --> make sure to remove the s offa https

Figured I would revisit this thread. The kid had another talent show a couple of weeks ago (her last one, she's a senior now :( ) and I have to say, I think she knocked it out of the fucking park!

Lemme know what you guys think.

She sounds really nice. And good song selection being a senior student, with the theme of changing over to a new world.

Very nice. Is she considering doing more after high school?

The obvious choice she wants to pursue is Broadway. But knowing that is probably a pipe dream without some kind of connections in that industry, she is shooting for a career in Music Therapy. She already has some music background and is currently working on learning some guitar and piano. She also is waiting to hear back from an in state university that offers a major in Music Therapy as well.

I can only imagine how much better she would be if we had money to have sent her for voice lessons over the years. She has never had a lesson. All self taught.

Well if you went to the Bulls game vs the pacers the other night, you might have seen my daughter perform during the pregame as a junior luvabull

She starts far left middle row, ends up for left last row
