I guess it works if you want a skin tight garment that looks like someone sneezed on you.

Now Jabe can finally see his own dick.

With a fancy microscope that is -268 degrees cold. Shrinkage anyone?

Warp drives will destroy the entire star system upon arrival. So much for the prime directive...

I'm not sure I understand why the particles would go shooting out of the warp bubble but the ship would not. Or the particles are trapped in front of the bubble?

Eh, fuckit, no point trying to understand it.

I love how all the trekkies get involved to explain all the different ways that drives worked in the series. As if that additional knowledge will somehow help scientists in the real world solve these problems. Why don't we just grab people that stayed at a holiday inn express and get them to work on the problem?

Its not so out of the question. Lots of scientific inquiry is started by sci-fi. They have no idea if they're right of course, but throwing idea at a wall to see what sticks sometimes works.

Based on recent developments regarding the Mars rover, it is now clear that the biblical "Garden of Eden" was in fact Mars itself. Adam and Eve were expelled by God who cast down upon them a hellish interstellar storm that carried the first two humans to earth and laid waste to Mars which was a for more comfortable planet than Earth at the time.

Yes, this is the same drive you mentioned in the link from a few posts previous ("The 'Alcubierre Drive' - Mod1"?). Funny, either way for that particle blast to be a proven risk, the drive has to be successful in the first place.

I guess their best case scenario could be a drive that works as hoped for and a way to harness that particle shower (if it results) for more energy. Auxiliary power, weapons, etc.

:) I saw this coming. But not on such a fundamental level. Cellular do-overs.

Futurists have been saying for awhile that the "math" of immortality has been a gap that's been slowly closing.

Something about life expectancy growing at like .2 years/year, and it hasn't slowed down (and it keeps getting larger every year). If it gets to .5 years/year a newborn born that year (if that year was this year) would have a life expectancy of 112 years (US. 125 in Japan), since they'd be adding on another year of life expectancy per year. As the increment climbs higher per year, the total life expectancy goes up (within reason).

Eventually if the life expectancy ramp hits 1.0years/year, you have achieved a theoretical immortality. Your life expectancy keeps staying ahead of your age.

Unfortunately the US has started backsliding on that equation, which isn't surprising given the Atlas Shrugged approach of late from a lot of the government. Profit over people, etc.

The nice thing about theories like the one in the video is they represent a giant leap in the life expectancy #, and are not about small health improvement increments.

Its not really a question of if, but when we'll have stupid long life expectancy. It is going to be a major upheaval in society not to have people retiring/dying so younger folks have a chance to take their place.

Yeah. That's the discernment I mean. It's easy to forecast incremental increase in life expectancy when it's been happening already for a couple centuries.

In one of the latest fiction novels about a pill that makes you live forever (or at least thousands of years), China outlaws it, for obvious reasons.

That is sweet. I want one.

Editing to say that while it is really cool. I am more excited that we are devoloping weapons systems that will cost us less to operate rather than more. This is a trend I would like to see continue.

That is pretty cool. I remember demoing some electric bikes when I worked security. The local bike shop wanted to get them on the street for people to see and we patrolled on bike in the summers. They were heavy and a PITA when the battery died. I think this is a good tradeoff between the two. I don't think I am ready to go for it but I would be willing to try this out.

They should be looking for funding from Divvy and Citi bikes. I wonder if having that on the bike would get more people to sign up (not that they're doing too bad already).

That thing is dope! Divvy probably doesn't want it, as it adds tech complexity to a bike that is already pretty tech heavy (integrated lights, GPS, unique ID and locking systems), but also because they intentionally gear the bikes to be "slow." They lack a fast gear.

Fuck Divvy. They stole 4-5 precious parking spaces in front of my building.
