^ I will watch that after I see 'The Wolf of Wall Street'...don't wanna risk any spoilers. :)

It's hard to be down in the dumps when I stumble upon this song...It's two years old! I had NO idea this happened. William Shatner AND Bootsy Collins sounds like some kinda fever dream I would have after food poisoning. I still can't believe it.

It's just a mock of the trailer, I haven't seen it either. But I totally respect not wanting to see the trailer, they tend to ruin movies nowadays.

I generally stay away from fan fiction, but this episode of Star Trek Continues was entertaining. It doesn't jurt that it's about an Orion slave girl who is hot as hell.

I clicked to watch a few minutes and ended up watching the whole thing. That was VERY true to the original series in set design, writing, and acting. I was a bit mesmerized.

Also, Grant Imahara as Sulu. The most well-known person in the cast and he was essentially an extra.

This series has a very high production quality, real sets, and the acting has improved considerably since the first episode.

There was another one I watched that George Takei played himself in (old version of himself in time travel scenario) and it was dreadful. Which is why I don't usually jump on fan fiction.

I never knew that Gene Roddenberry was an aviator and airline pilot

Quote:
In 1941, he joined the United States Army Air Corps, which in the same year became the United States Army Air Forces. He began training at Goodfellow Field (now Goodfellow Air Force Base) in San Angelo, Texas with other Civilian Pilot Training alums and graduated as a second lieutenant in September 1942, Class G.[8] He flew combat missions in the Pacific Theatre with the "Bomber Barons" of the 394th Bomb Squadron, 5th Bombardment Group, of the Thirteenth Air Force and on August 2, 1943, Roddenberry was piloting a B-17E Flying Fortress named the "Yankee Doodle", from Espiritu Santo, New Hebrides, when mechanical failure caused it to crash on take-off. In total, he flew eighty-nine missions for which he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal before being honorably discharged at the rank of captain in July 1945.[9][10][11] While working on Star Trek, Roddenberry would spend much of his spare time at California's Monterey Peninsula Airport with a group of aviation enthusiasts who flew World War II fighters.

After the military, Roddenberry worked as a commercial pilot for Pan American World Airways, qualifying for the Lockheed L-049 Constellation. He received a Civil Aeronautics commendation for his rescue efforts following the June 1947 crash of Pan Am Flight 121 ("Clipper Eclipse") in the Syrian desert near Mayadine while on a flight to Istanbul from Karachi. While based out of Miami, Roddenberry enrolled in three writing classes at the University of Miami, from which he withdrew with passing grades following his transfer to New York City in November 1945. During his New York-area sojourn, the Roddenberrys lived in Jamaica, Queens, and River Edge, New Jersey. He briefly continued his education, taking four writing courses offered by the Columbia University School of General Studies in the spring and fall of 1946 before withdrawing due to the demands of his employment in January 1947.

If I had some spare change... Kickstarter for a Trek story that I've always wanted to see. Fleet Captain Garth of Izar (also my rarely used handle on Steam), 'Star Trek: Prelude to Axanar'

It's nice to see some of the established actors pitching in on the cheap.

Also, this is the type of stuff that Paramount should jump on if they want to answer the avalanche of product coming from DisneyMarvel, Sony, Warner Bros, Fox, etc... This is a Trek story that I've been wanting to see since before Star Wars even existed. As at least a couple other generations have as well.

So I am finishing re-watching TNG season 5 on Blu-ray. Side rant WTF is up with Season 6 taking almost a year for re-release?

Anyway, I was watching "The Perfect Mate" and there is this sequence of events that is almost unbelievable:

Picard orders Riker to escort this super model / "metamorph" / hypersexed babe to her quarters after it's discovered she was being transported in the cargo bay. This may have been Picard's worst command decision of all time. She of course ends up making out with him and Riker finally pulls himself together enough to get out the door. The hilarious part is that Riker immediately calls the bridge and says "if you need me I'll be on holodeck 4".

If it was never obvious before, it is now, that the holodeck was just a big orgy chamber. I always though maybe Riker got a bad rap, but watching this stuff now that I am picking up on certain things, he totally has it coming. Especially when just a couple episodes back he was banging Ro Laren and egging on Troi's interest while their memories were erased and also trying to get it on with this asexual alien. Season 5 was a good time to be Riker.

Don't hate the player, hate the game.

^ Riker's Starfleet Mission Statement: To seek out and explore strange.

...and that's it. Everything else was just him paying dues to get some E.T. vulva. Frisk! Frisk was his business!

They made it so painfully obvious in Season 5.

Man, this dude seriously needs to learn the rules of the Radio DJ: NEVER give your critics ammo. Never stoop to their level. Never argue and debate them. You gotta float above that shit, even (especially!) if they're right. Soak it up, let them know you've read it and understand their beefs, and move on.

Also? Guy is a King Douche.

I'm seriously at a point where they can shove the entire reboot up their collective asses. It was fun seeing new Trek but I'll take anything in the prime timeline at this point.

I'm wondering what direction they're going to go in now. I assume JJ Abrams is out as the helm, so who are they going to get to take it? I KNOW Paramount wants more (these things make hella dollars), but like, how? Who?

I'm actually a lotta bit concerned that Paramount execs will point at the hojillion dollars the Trek reboots made as justification to only do Battlestar style Trek TV shows if/when that opportunity for a new series comes along.

Then there (is what I think) will be the next era of Star Trek. With all of the recent competition, I can't see Viacom being comfortable with just one movie every 3 years. Why would a stockholder be satisfied with Viacom when Disney, Warner Bros, Fox, & Sony are looking at cranking franchises in back-to-back years? Whether they are good or bad most are making money, buffing stocks. AND Paramount lost Indiana Jones to Disney. In relative terms their blue chip scifi franchise is sitting on the bench in the playoffs. I'd be mystified if they're not working on some type of new multi-media Trekverse franchise crossover strategy as we speak.

^This from me in the Star Wars Rebels thread would probably be better here...Yeah, I agree, that there is a strong potential for all of the "new surge" of scifi/fantasy franchises to have a downside to them. Hard slanting toward a BSG style, I agree wouldn't be the best. But I think there is a good chance that Trek will try to cover as many flavors as possible in terms of story tone. They'd have to because of the competition. Disney is going that route with Star Wars. Some popcorn, some gritty.

Regardless, I think a Section 31 series would be worth a shot. So many flavors could fit into that premise show-to-show. There are A LOT of good, and a few great, Trek novels written in the last 35 years. Good material to use there.

I am not feeling this one. Maybe it's the taint that Enterprise put on Section 31 story lines.

Well...Orci will likely be directing and Khan will likely be back. This is either the ultimate troll article or Star Trek is done.

Looks like view-bait. No sources referenced. "Reportedly" has no reporter. And the only links are about the last movie.

But...even if the article is 100% true and Khan does come back in a lead role, that doesn't mean the franchise is done. It's done for me (as far as this Enterprise crew story goes), but still moar Khan cud make bilion doller movie still!! #orcitrilegy #borgin3 #khanyay!west

Well, the "over for me" part was what I was saying. It's something called Star Trek at that point, but what Star Trek was, is officially gone in my book.

The shuttle bay is where the best taint is at.

It taint the shuttle bay and it taint the square

Rumor is that it will be a new cross universe venture as Disney will buy the franchise and produce "Wrath of TRON".

^ That was great. Also, Shatner and Doohan probably made crazy stoopid quatloos from the deal.

Apparently only the TNG set was available.
