Sorry if the big image breaks the page scroll.

So we have the 200 mi range EV Tesla Model 3 coming out in 2017 for $35K:

Chevy just announced the Bolt (not Volt) for $30K to come out the same year:

Assuming the price of gas does not stay ridiculously low, would you consider either car?

Don't know anything about the Bolt's specs, but it's uglier than shit. If it gets insane mileage, I'd consider it. The Tesla, though, I'd seriously consider it, but I think only if I was moving. I think my biggest hangup with either is that i live in the midwest. It was 30 fucking below zero the other day. And it's going to be 100 plus in the summer. If either of them makes a battery that can handle those seasonal fluctuations and still get even 85% of that range, I'd seriously consider it.

Hands down I'd buy a Tesla if I could afford it, and I still want to, regardless of gas prices.

I doubt the Bolt will get the mileage in 2017 that the Tesla is already capable of, today. I'm seeing some specs that they are on the verge of a 200mi battery, but Tesla is already mass producing theirs, and have been, for years. Like Tesla is already getting real road data on cars driven across the entire country in the wild by actual owners and Chevy is still in prototyping/R&D mode.

Today:
Tesla MIN spec battery: 208mi on a full charge. http://www.teslamotors.com/models
Chevy MAX spec battery: 85mi on a full charge. http://www.chevrolet.com/spark-ev-electric-vehicle.html

Chevy CLAIMS they'll have something that can get 200mi on a full charge by 2017, but Tesla already has that, and you can buy it, today.

So by the time 2017 hits, I have full faith I could get to work and back in my Tesla 2 days in a row (total of 162 miles), in the worst possible conditions (100F or -20F) before I need to charge it. I could do that today, if I owned one. Further, Tesla's design aesthetic is always amazing and beautiful (inside and out), and Chevy's is, well, fucking awful.

Agreed that the Chevy is pretty terrible looking, but I already drive a fugly little car so I'm somewhat numbed to it. Biggest trade-off with the looks thing is the interior space.

I don't think you're going to see a lot of interior space in the Bolt, and the Tesla S (which it looks like they're basing this new one off the S body) already has a LOT of space (the entire front trunk is bigger than a BMW 7 trunk or something I've heard). Probably comfortable leg room as well in the Tesla. Tesla don't slouch.

Living right up next to White Eagle and walking downtown I see at least one of these a day now. Gimme.

According to a new report out of Consumer Reports, the Tesla Model S P85D, all-wheel-drive electric sedan, performed “better in our tests than any other car ever has, earning a perfect road-test score.”

Actually, it did better than that, scoring 103 points in a scoring system that, “by definition,” doesn’t go past 100.

Are they the P85Ds? I see a TON of Ss on the road, but haven't seen these yet.

They are ALL over the place by me (the dealer is 3 blocks away), so I see them on road tests almost daily. But they're also all over the highway now, which is AWESOME.

But the P85D still seems really rare. Even though they make up a rumored 40% of all S sales, that's still like 4,000 nationwide this year.

I'll take the new kawasaki h2r, the first production sport bike with a supercharger... The race version has 300hp and only weighs 440#

Here's a drag race between it and a tuned up veyron (1200hp, up from 1000)
