German village flooded by liquid pig manure

Wed Feb 22, 10:41 AM ET

BERLIN (Reuters) - A Bavarian village was flooded by liquid pig manure after a tank containing the fertiliser burst, German police said on Wednesday.

Sewage rose to 50 cm (19.69 inches) in the courtyards and streets of Elsa after gushing from the tank, which held some 240,000 litres (52,800 Imp gallons) of pig manure.

"The village was swamped with green-brown liquid and it was pig manure -- the mother-of-all muck," said Rainer Prediger, a police spokesman in the nearby town of Coburg.

Police estimated the pig waste had caused at least 100,000 euros (68,000 pounds) worth of damage.

LOL, my girl and I drove past the GetGo that that happened in last night on the way to the movies. When she found out what happened she said she's never going through McKeesport again. I guess she didnt hear the part about it being fake.

The WTAE 4 lady was standing on the corner doing the report about it as we drove by, we just thought it was either a shooting or gas prices thing, it being McKeesport and all. Funny stuff.

I guess she should change the slogan she always said, "Don't Mess with Texas" to "Don't mess with text-messaging when approaching train crossings if you're deaf in Texas"

and I thought houses in chicago were expensive

Former 'Earthquake Shacks' Survive Century

By LISA LEFF, Associated Press Writer Wed Apr 12, 3:37 AM ET

SAN FRANCISCO - Noreen Farrell always thought her house was something special, but she didn't know it was a slice of history until the day she spotted a stranger out front taking photographs.

"I think this is one of the original earthquake shacks," the man with the camera told her.

Although there was little other than the home's cozy quarters, low ceilings and six-paned windows to suggest it, the visitor was right: the added-onto dwelling holds the bones of a cabin hastily erected a century ago to house refugees from the 1906 earthquake and fires.

Farrell, 36, an attorney, bought the 720-square-foot home for more than $600,000 with her husband in September.

Yeah, that's fairly "normal" for downtown San Fran.

Liz and I have friends who live in Daly City (just across the bay from San Fran) and they had a 1000 sq ft house that they originally paid 350k for 5 years ago. It's appreciated 50k/year over the past 5 years.

When they became pregnant with their second child and it was apparent that they were going to be out of space, it was actually cheaper to TEAR DOWN their old house and erect a brand new 1800 sq ft house rather than sell and buy an 1800-2000 sq ft house. So that's what they did. Stupid zoning laws kept them from building larger than 1800 sq ft because they only had room for a 1 car garage (in case you're wondering why they didn't go bigger).

Awww. Why not? All gators aren't mean. My Uncle Tater used to have a pet alligator and he could call it in from the pond, before he passed. That was pretty cool to see as a very wee thing.

Dog, that commercial made me actually tune into Star Trek 2.0, it was so well done. The actual show? Sucks OUT LOUD. Hooray they've put dumb stats up for old Trek episodes. Yay.

But that ad is priceless. I still use Chillax in everyday sentences now.

And I used to have some of those figures. I know I had Kirk, I think maybe Spock, and a few aliens (the black/white guys). I also had that bridge set where the transporter was a spinny thing you put the figure in and you hit the green or red button to make it stop. One made it look like the guy arrived where you can see him (on the bridge), and the other made it stop so he'd "not" be there (you had to let him out a trap door in back).

I think Zannon had the same kit.

Me and my brothers had the figures and bridge set. Yes, the Transporter spinner was priceless. I'd consider armed robbery to get hold of that set again.

Okay, old news indeed, but Mary Kay Letourneau was on Larry King's show earlier with her ex-elementary school boy toy now husband. They both "knew that they loved each other" while she was his teacher in 6th grade. Yah.
